Carbon accounting services in Perth to manage businesses’ carbon reporting obligations.
MKM Accountants provide carbon accounting and ESG services for large and enterprise-level Perth organisations. Under the new Australian Accounting Standards (effective 1 January 2025), businesses that meet the carbon accounting requirements must track, record, and report the level of carbon emissions generated.
Emissions accounted for are broken down into three scopes based on their origin:
Scope 1 – Direct emissions from vehicle usage, fuel consumption, or chemical leakage.
Scope 2 – Indirect emissions from sources of power such as purchased electricity, steam, heating and cooling energy.
Scope 3 – Other indirect emissions produced as part of the value chain of the business, often including those generated by suppliers, waste management, and business travel.
An increasing number of small to medium businesses involved in the supply chain of a larger business are now required to carry out carbon accounting under Scope 3. MKM Accountants provide streamlined carbon accounting services for Perth SMEs.
Carbon accounting is required for businesses that meet at least 2 of the following criteria:
· Having an employee count of over 500
· Gross assets valued at over $1 billion
· Annual revenue of over $500 million
These requirements apply from 1 January 2025 and are slated to change over the next two years.
2026 requirements
· Having an employee count of over 250
· Gross assets valued at over $500 million
· Annual revenue of over $200 million
2027 requirements
· Having an employee count of over 100
· Gross assets valued at over $25 million
· Annual revenue of over $50 million
As the requirements become more stringent, businesses must be prepared to conduct carbon accounting to meet Australian Accounting Standards.
